BAYBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – The search for the missing Beaufort County crabber is now over.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the body of 53-year-old Michael Hopkins was found on Wednesday morning.

The Coast Guard and county crews launched searches on Monday.

The Belhaven man disappeared on the Pamlico River near Hickory Point.

Deputies say a local resident found the body near North Creek. The investigation continues but no foul play is suspected.

Previous Update:

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing Beaufort County crabber.

The man went missing Monday near Hickory Point. That’s near where South Creek feeds into the Pamlico River.

Missing is Michael Hopkins of Belhaven.

“Deciding to suspend a search is one of the most difficult things we must do as Coast Guardsmen,” said Capt. Sean Murtagh, Sector North Carolina commander. “Careful consideration is given to many factors before suspending any search. Pending further developments, we’ve decided to suspend the active search for Michael Hopkins. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Coast Guard and county deployed search crews Tuesday morning. While the Coast Guard has suspended its search, Beaufort County will continue its efforts to recover the missing man.
