WEB EXCLUSIVE: Wright Brother’s Memorial spotlighted in OBX

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WNCT) – As Outer Banks residents and visitors prepare for the forecasted wet weather Sunday and the winds whip on the beach, some are reminded of the great events that have taken place along the coast of North Carolina. One event in particular is spotlighted Saturday night on the dunes of Kill Devil Hills. The Wright Brother’s Memorial shines bright near the sound while water laps the banks along the coastline.

On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright successfully took flight after years of hard work and research. The memorial, which is maintained by the National Parks Service, allows visitors to explore the dunes where this first flight became a reality. The Wright Brother’s Memorial Park is scheduled to open Sunday as Hurricane Joaquin makes its way further into the Atlantic Ocean. In the meantime, enjoy this web exclusive video of the Eastern North Carolina original attraction captured by the WNCT staff.
