Flooding could cause major problems for septic tanks

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Rain could be heavy around Eastern North Carolina for the next few days and officials are urging homeowners to check their septic tanks.

Rain fills up the drain line which allows less flow of water to be transferred to the ground. Vinse Bowers, owner of Stallings, a manufacturing and repair company says to space out your water consumption in your home. He says the ground can’t absorb all the water, causing your septic tank to back up.

“You just have issues where the water can’t transfer as quickly and so you overload the system and it can’t work properly. Winter time is the worst because you are getting a lot more rain and everything is just being pushed to the limits,” explained Bowers.

Bowers says to monitor your septic tank closely for the next few days. If you have issues, contact a pumping company.
