Coastal towns experience minor flooding after heavy rains

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – Heavy rains caused some flooding problems in communities along the coastline.

Beaufort Police put up high water signs on roadways, and asked drivers to take precaution when heading out.

“ When you can not tell how deep the water is, how fast the water is moving. Be safe turn around. Do not try to drive through it,” said Maj. Steve Guthrie with the Beaufort Police. “It does not take a whole lot of water to get a vehicle to lift up off the highway and then you are in serious trouble. “

Maj. Guthrie said the department responded to one accident and a couple stalled cars due to the flooding, and they received calls from local school systems in regards to the flooding early Friday morning.
