KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT)- Monday night Kinston utility customers found out exactly how much their electric rates will be reduced.

According to Mayor B.J. Murphy, the group voted unanimously for rates to be lowered by 10%. The reduction will take affect on the next bill cycle.

A lower rate reduction will allow the city to delay future hikes for the next five years. Kinston is one of the last cities to discuss lower rates after Duke Energy took over Kinston’s stake in electricities.
