Attempted robbery at New Bern Taco Bell

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT)- A man is in custody after he allegedly attempted to rob a Taco Bell in New Bern.

Authorities say around 6:10 p.m. Sunday night, employees at the Taco Bell on Neuse Blvd. and MLK Blvd. reported that a man was attempting to rob the store. They said he was armed with a handgun.

After talking to employees, the suspect left without any money.

Bryan Matthew McCollum, 26, was apprehended a few blocks from the scene at the corner of Neuse Blvd. and Chattawka Lane. Police are still searching for the handgun used during the robbery.

McCollum is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held on $100,000 bond at Craven County jail.
