Coast Guard suspends search for missing man near Oregon Inlet

OREGON INLET, N.C. – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a fisherman near Oregon Inlet.

38-year-old Kristopher Mueller was last seen spear fishing near the Bonner Bridge on Saturday.

The Park Service found his car and the Coast Guard found a kayak with fish, life jacket and cell phone inside.

Divers said the surf was rough in that area and the water is about 30 to 40 feet deep.

The Coast Guard used helicopters and an airplane to look for Mueller.

Friends also spent this weekend searching for him, saying he had more than 20 years of experience.

“He is very calculated and experienced and definitely would not have made any stupid mistakes,” said Charles Buxton, friend.

The Coast Guard did have crews search for the majority of Monday.
