Teachers educate students about 9/11

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Teachers in the East said the events on 9/11 are something they try to teach students. Despite many students not being born or too young to remember, teachers said most understand the severity of what happened.

Ryan Jones, a North Pitt High School history teacher, said he asked his students to interview their parents to get a better understanding of the events. He said it’s important for future generations to remember what happened on that day.

“I still think it’s important for them to remember this. I was talking about Pearl Harbor day too. It happened a long time ago, but it’s still important. We still need to remember it,” Jones said.

Jones said he tries to be extremely sensitive when discussing the topic. He said he tries to wrap in events still happening today, like the war on terror, to explain 9/11 better.
