ECU police: no major issues during first football game

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – ECU police said things went smoothly during the first football game of the year, and they didn’t have any major issues.

Lt. Chris Sutton with ECU Police said in previous years, they have had to eject up to around 100 people from the stadium during the game. On Saturday, he estimated only around 10 people were ejected.

More than 100 officers from eight agencies were on hand to help ensure safety. Sutton said they had concerns about the late kick off, but things went well.

“The Pirate nation came out last night to support the football team. They wanted the football team to be the big story of the game, and what happened on this field turned out to be,” he said.

Sutton said they plan to keep the same procedures in place for future games. He also said they were close to an evacuation because of lightning in the vicinity.
