Two cases of norovirus in North Carolina

ROXBORO, N.C. – At least two cases of norovirus have been confirmed in North Carolina, and many more may soon be diagnosed. Dozens of students and faculty members fell ill of a gastrointestinal illness at Person County schools.

However, county health officials say it’s not clear whether the norovirus is the sole cause of the outbreak of illness. They say more samples need to be tested.

The norovirus is highly contagious virus spread through fecal-contaminated food and water.

Nearly 1,000 students were absent from Person County schools on Friday, two days after more than 150 went home sick. THowever, it’s expected that some of the students were kept home as a precaution.
