Sen. Ben Cook to meet with teacher assistants Thursday evening

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Beaufort County elected official is coming to Chocowinity to talk state spending on education.

Senator Bill Cook will be at a meeting with teacher assistants Thursday evening.

On Monday, the county saved 9 people from losing their jobs since the Board of Education didn’t have enough to cover the salaries.

The county hopes to recoup the costs if state steps in with enough money in the final state budget.

Cook is one of the senators that’s working on the final deal. He said legislators plan to work through the weekend.

The temporary budget expires at the end of the month.
