First on 9: Man loses home in Pitt County fire, cat missing

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – An early morning fire leaves a Pitt County man looking for a new home.

Multiple crews were dispatched to a Pitt County home early Thursday morning. Red Oak Fire Chief John Maynard says when firefighters got to the home the single wide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. The tenant was not home at the time.

The property’s owner Fred Wainwright called 911 after his wife alerted him to the fire across the street. “When I first saw the fire, it was really engulfed in flames from end to end with the flames coming through the windows, and a panic set in” said Wainwright.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials say it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.\

The tenant’s cat is also missing at this time. Firefighters say the home is a total loss.
