New Bern man convicted of rape charge

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A New Bern man will spend the next 4 to 6 years in prison for raping a mentally handicapped 15-year-old.

Kenny Barnes started that sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty.

The DA’s office says the victim was a family acquaintance.

Once Barnes gets out of prison, he’ll be a registered sex offender and need to wear monitoring technology for the rest of his life.
