NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Craven County officials are getting the ball rolling on repairing the local animal shelter.
Earlier this week, commissioners approved $100,000 of existing funds to be used.
County spokeswoman Amber Parker said they’re in the process on getting some permits for the work. Phase one includes adding an AC unit for the shelter, repairing the floor, and a window.
Future plans include looking into expansion and adding more kennels.
Work is expected to start this fall.
The Craven County Animal Shelter will soon be starting much needed upgrades.
Commissioner Scott Dacey says the board approved Monday morning to use $100,000 in existing money for the shelter.
The money’s going to repairs including AC installation and maintenance.
Dacey says the work will help the shelter meet state standards.
The board also approved spending around $215,000 dollars for online records.
It’s all for the Register of Deeds office.
Dacey says the money is basically going to help preserve history.
