Law enforcement kicks into high gear to combat underage drinking

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – With many college students heading back into town this week, local law enforcement is kicking into high gear to combat underage drinking.

Alcohol Law Enforcement agents are prepping local bars to maximize prevention. One of the main focuses is fake IDs.

ALE is also working with ECU to educate students. ECU Police Lieutenant Chris Sutton says this training is crucial.

“Families entrust their greatest possession in East Carolina in their children and so it’s important for the university and for the police department to put their best foot forward to try to educate them on what they can do to help maintain their safety while they’re here on campus,” Sutton said.

Over the past year, the ABC Commission reports over half of all underage alcohol violations involve fake IDs.
