Car safety tips

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- Car seats are mandatory for children until they are 8-years-old, but Vidant Medical Center recommends children use a car seat until they are 13. Greenville Fire and Rescue can help parents properly install car seats. Ellen Walston with Vidant Medical Center says setting up a car seat correctly can be difficult.

“We really want to emphasize just proper installation of the seat and just minor adjustments sometimes parents don’t realize that the retainer clip is a very important part of the seat and needs to be at armpit level. harnesses need to be snug and tight,” Walston said.

Walston says no matter what age you are, the back seat is the safest place of the car. Everyone is required to wear a seat belt no matter where they sit.
