Pitt County smoke-like odor appears to be from construction

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A smoke-like odor Wednesday morning in Pitt County appears to be coming from a construction site, according to Pitt County Communications.

Homeowners in the Mill Creek subdivision of Greenville say contractors are burning tree stubs and that could have caused the smell. Those who live near the construction say they don’t mind the work so close to their homes.

“I think they’ve been clearing out for about three weeks and the burning process just started here in the last two or three days. It should be done shortly, and like I say its going to be a nice neighborhood, nice and quiet,” homeowner Pat Hoynacki said.

Contractors are clearing the space to build more houses. They told WNCT the burning process was cleared with the Pitt County Fire Marshal.
