WINDSOR, N.C. (WNCT) – A group claims they’ve found out what happened to the lost colonists of Roanoke Island.
Members of the First Colony Foundation excavated an area marked “x”. They went to the spot in 2012 after researchers found the area on a map at the British museum.
Archaeologists think the colonists moved inland to the area around Bertie County by the Chowan River.
They’ll keep digging, saying they only examined a tenth of the site so far.
