SBI arrests three in drug ring, more arrests expected

(WNCT) – The SBI arrested three people involved with an alleged drug ring Monday, after a receiving a tip from a Greenville doctor’s office.

The SBI’s Diversion and Environmental Crimes Unit arrested Shanita Michelle Newton, 27, of Greenville, Michael Terrell Rouse, 32, of Snow Hill, and Joline Danielle Able, 26, of LaGrange.

All three suspects have been charged with trafficking in opiates and obtaining controlled substances by fraud.

The SBI says the investigation began after receiving cooperation from Eastern Urology in Greenville.

The three suspects were obtaining Oxycodone tablets through fraudulent activities.

Rouse and Newton were booked in the Bertie-Martin regional jail, while Able was booked in the Lenoir County jail.

The SBI expects additional arrests as the investigation is ongoing.
