Grifton EMS: Firefighters put out late night structure fire

GRIFTON, N.C.(WNCT) – There are new details on a building fire just outside of Grifton Monday night.

Grifton and Ayden fire departments responded around 10 o’clock.

The Grifton Fire Department says when crews arrived the building was engulfed in flames.

The building was vacant, but had electricity running to it.

Grifton fire officials say the man who owned the building actually died due to health issues earlier Monday morning.

Emergency Management and the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
