Greenville City Council updates strategic plan

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Greenville City Council is moving ahead with its strategic plan on making improvements to the city.

The council discussed their plans last night that continue to make Greenville a growing city.

One of the biggest updates is the renovation of the Southern Greenville Recreation Center.

“This is community center that has been in disrepair and has needed repairs for a long time,” said Councilwoman Marion Blackburn. “We are going to fund it.”

The council is partnering with Pitt County Schools to fund the renovations.

The recreation center needs a lot of work, as it houses an older but very heavily used gym.

The building should be re-constructed by August of 2016.

Another update involves the Tar River Legacy Plan, which will create at least one camping platform at River Park north.
