FBI slams online “Dangerous Cities” rankings

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Charlotte division slammed recent online reports which rank Kinston as one of the state’s most dangerous cities.

The rankings claim to use data from the agency’s “Uniform Crime Report.”

The FBI said its data should not be used to compare cities and called the lists inaccurate.

Kinston mayor B.J. Murphy filed a complaint with the state attorney general against the rankings’ authors.

“To be bullied in a social media or a public forum as a website is simply just unfair not only to Kinston but cities across the state,” he said.

Murphy said the attorney general is reviewing the complaint.

WNCT will keep viewers updated on the agency’s response.
