GREENVILLE, N.C. – The opening of the much anticipated new apartment complex, The Boundary, is a new state of the art facility that will house 500 upperclassman students.
Students are supposed to start moving in on Saturday, but the continued construction has residents thinking otherwise.
“I have a lot of doubts because I pass by it all the time,” said Benjamin Guzman, an ECU student. “I mean you can see like the outside is kinda being worked on.. but also like the inside.”
Despite the perception, the construction manager says the building will be ready.
“We’re planning to occupy beginning this Saturday,” said Tom Taft, who is constructing the building. “We’ll be ready for the interior; exterior still has some work to go. During the final weeks we had to make a decision on whether to focus on the outside or the inside.”
The rooms are ready, but some of the amenities won’t be finished in time, such as the pool. In exchange, the construction company has done something for the residents.
“They emailed us a few days ago and they said that because some of the amenities wont be done, like the pool and stuff in time, that they’re going to give us a $100 American Express gift card to off-set some of the costs,” said Jessie Tucci-Herron, an ECU student. “It can go toward our rent or some of the stuff we want.”
Because the building is still under construction for the next few weeks. many students are concerned that even though it should be done.. it might not.
“We have a back-up plan,” said Taft. “In case something happens, we rented the entire Holiday Inn for five nights. In the event we need it.. but it doesn’t look like we’re going to need it.”
