9 On Your Side Back to School Supplies Drive continues in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The 9 On Your Side school supplies drive continued Wednesday in Jacksonville.

Donations are coming in, but your help is needed to make it successful.

9 On Your Side is collecting school items for kids in Onslow County Schools until 7 p.m. at the aashley furniture homestore on western boulevard.

Onslow County Schools Chief Communication Officer Beth Folger says this drive will help dozens of students who otherwise wouldn’t have what they need to get back in the classroom.

“We have so many children that, whose families can’t always afford the basic school supplies that are needed,” explained Beth Folger, Onslow Co. Schools. “And therefore, they come to school sometimes not feeling as prepared and ready academically as other children. And so this school supply allows all of our students to start off on the same footing.”

9 On Your Side wants to offer a big thank you to all of you who came out to our drive yesterday in Pitt County Tuesday. We delivered the truckload of supplies to Pitt County Schools before the Ashley Furniture Homestore truck made its way down to Jacksonville for Wednesday’s drive.

Pitt County Schools lead social worker Cassandra Campbell tells me kids shouldn’t have to worry about having what they need for class, when some may have much bigger problems.

“The school supplies are a big help because the families that are in crisis, whatever that crisis might be, they can benefit from having that extra help as they try to recover from their crisis. That’ll be one thing they don’t have to worry about and it’s a necessary thing for children to get back to a normal routine,” Campbell said.
