Fire destroys New Bern mobile home

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A kitchen fire destroyed a mobile home in New Bern Wednesday night, according to Craven County Assistant Emergency Services Director Ira Whitford.

Whitford says the fire started around 8 p.m. at 502 Hyman Drive. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a stove-top was on at the time and may be to blame.

One person was inside the home at the time and she may have minor burns from trying to remove something from the stove-top, according to Whitford. No one was transported to the hospital. The home sustained heavy damage and the homeowner will no longer be able to live there.

Crews from multiple departments were able to put the fire out by 11 p.m.
