More beach wheelchairs in Southeastern N.C.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – It’s now much easier for people who have challenges walking to get to the surf in Southeastern North Carolina.

Beach towns in New Hanover County are now offering beach wheelchairs. They are chairs with fat wheels that can easily glide over the sand where conventional wheelchairs can’t go.

Visitors can call and reserve chairs from recreation departments in Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach.

Rentals are also available from the fire department in Kure Beach. The towns have a total of 18 beach wheelchairs available for rent.
