GREENVILLE, N.C.(WNCT)- The Pitt County Sheriff’s office is moving forward with the 42-year-old cold case of Sheila Brown. Major Paula Dance met with a forensic pathologist to see how much information could be obtained by exhuming the body. Sheila Brown was originally found in the woods near Ayden. Her death was recorded as death by natural causes, but the Pitt County Sheriff’s office believes she was killed.
“My questions are if there are things that still could be intact that we would be able to get some type of things like DNA, or finger nail scrapings, anything like that,” Major Dance said.
If the pathologist believes exhuming the body would be beneficial, the Sheriff’s office would have to go through a process with the District Attorney’s office to get approval.
