GREENVILLE, N.C.(WNCT)- North Carolina 811 developed an app to make digging easier for property owners. The app allows users to submit utility location requests from the palm of their hands. Its free and schedules a representative to come out to your property. Once scheduled, the representatives will let you know where its safe to dig. This app offers an alternative to calling your utility company directly.

Emily Barnes from Greenville Utilities, said, “what 8-1-1 does is contact each utility company so Greenville Utilities, for example, will then get a notice from 811 that this particular customer needs to have a locate done, and they will usually get an email saying please be on the lookout within this certain time frame.”

Owners do not have to be home when the locate process is performed.
