NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – The Food Bank in New Bern celebrates 5 years of service.
Volunteers took to the garden by picking various vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes. They also bagged potatoes for families to eat.
The Food Bank says it relies on the community to help them make a difference. Volunteers built the community garden five years ago and have provided over 12,000 pounds of fresh produce.
“Without volunteers, we are without a doubt dead in the water. We have to have volunteers to make these operations run. You don’t move 50 million pounds a year with employees only, you have to have community support,” said Lance Barton.
The Food Bank says donations are crucial to the operation and always in need of more help. If you are interested in volunteering with the organization, click here.
