NBPD: Single car accident causes small power outage

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – The New Bern Police Department is investigating an early morning accident that caused a power outage along Broad Street.

Police tell 9 On Your Side the accident happened around 2:40a.m. on Wednesday.

Police say 40-year-old Bradley Boyd crashed into an electricity transformer after failing to make a turn on Broad Street.

Police say a hotel, several businesses, and some residences were without power for several hours while crews worked to fix the transformer.

Boyd was treated and released from the hospital. He is charged with reckless driving, injury to real property, and not having liability insurance.

Police say as of 7:40a.m. power was restored to the area
