CHARLESTON, S.C. – The man accused of slaying nine black church members in Charleston is now facing federal charges.
A grand jury has indicted 21-year-old Dylann Roof on 12 hate crime charges.
The indictment includes allegations of obstructing someone’s religious practice, a charge that can carry the death penalty in the federal system.
Roof also faces state charges, including nine murder counts.
Prosecutors haven’t said whether they’ll seek the death penalty.
