Life in prison for Pitt Co. teen

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A Pitt County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was found guilty of murder.

Jarheel May was charged in the murder of Anthony Antonio Johnson. Johnson was shot multiple times in the front yard of his apartment in January of 2013.

The mother of Anthony Antonio Johnson says she thinks of her son every day. She says he was a great person and a great cook.

“He was a nice, cool caring person, and he wouldn’t hurt anybody. He got along with everybody and if it were anything he had and you asked him, he would give it to you.”

May sat quiet in the courtroom as he was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was found not guilty on a separate charge.

A judge sentenced May to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“It made it come to a closure and it’s been two years of waiting,” said Johnsons cousin Sadarrius Lewis.
