Edgecombe Co. detention officer suspended

Carolyn Best Shaw

AYDEN, N.C. (WNCT) – An Edgecombe County detention officer is suspended while she’s being investigated for keeping a family member against his will for several months.

Ayden police say Carolyn Shaw Best kept 45-year-old Alonzo Best in a home for several months in horrible conditions.

Carolyn is charged along with Frederick Best, a pastor in Pitt County, and Joseph Carroll.

Frederick Best claims the victim had mental health issues. But police say that’s not the case.
