BELHAVEN, NC (WNCT) – The State Auditor’s Office issued a subpoena for the Town of Belhaven for an audit/investigation.
The documents Auditor Beth Wood’s office requested include thumb drives, DVD’s and data storage devices. The office also requested passwords and user identifications to obtain access to data on the town computer.
The town was asked to comply by Monday, June 29.
The auditor’s office would not confirm anything else about the investigation.
Mayor Adam O’Neal told WNCT he did not know why the town was being audited. He said it was likely a case of “plain politics” and was likely due to the upcoming election.
