Carolina Beach party boat crash causes minor injuries

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (AP) — A handful of people suffered minor injuries when a party boat crashed into a pier.

The U.S. Coast Guard tells WRAL-TV in Raleigh that there were no serious injuries in the crash Friday night.

Officials say the boat was carrying 159 people when it hit the pier after 9 p.m. Investigators say the crash happened after a temporary loss of steering due to an equipment problem.

Witnesses tell the Star News newspaper in Wilmington that people went flying after the crash, and that paramedics later boarded the ship.
