50 local students of marine families get scholarships

Students receive scholarships at a ceremony at Camp Lejeune.

CAMP LEJUENE, NC (WNCT) – The Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation gave out over fifty funds on Friday to high school seniors or current college students.

These went to those of both active duty and retired marine parents.

A current recipient served as tonight’s student speaker.

The engineering major talked about how much this scholarship helped make a difference.

Over 300 North Carolina students got the scholarship this year as part of a record-breaking one for marine children, according to the non-profit.

The majority are staying in the state to attend a university.
