Va. man charged with child abduction in Kinston teen’s disappearance

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A man accused of kidnapping a Kinston teen was returned to Lenoir County from Portsmouth, Virginia Friday.

47-year-old Joseph Dean Ringo is charged with felony child abduction of Ashane Jenkins, who was located as a result of a tip received due to media coverage.

Currently he’s in the Lenoir County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

He’ll face his charges in a Lenoir County court.

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Kinston Department of Public Safety needs your help to locate 15 year old Ashane Lashawn Jenkins.

A runaway juvenile report was made by Sylvia Noel, Jenkins foster parent, on July 5 when officers responded to a home on Hodges Rd.  Authorities tell WNCT, Jenkins’ disappearance is suspicious and she is considered to be in grave danger.  A vehicle believed to have been involved in the disappearance has been located in Virginia. They believe Ashane was traveling to Portsmouth, VA at the time of her disapperance.

Jenkins is 5′ 10″ tall, 174 lbs., and has brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a multicolored sun dress and white sneakers, but may have changed before leaving the house.



Ashane has acquaintances in Oriental, NC, Greenville, NC, and Portsmouth Virginia.   If you have any information about Jenkins’ whereabouts, contact Kinston Department of Pubic Safety at 252-939-3220.
