Pair of reigning champs win TYGA Coastal Plains Golf Tournament

GREENVILLE (WNCT) – Neither Blake Taylor (Atkinson, N.C.) nor Sarah Funderburg (Wilmington, N.C.) is from Greenville. But the two are becoming quite comfortable in the city, and more specifically at Bradford Creek Golf Course.

For the second straight year, Taylor won the Boys Overall, while Funderburg won the Girls Overall at the Coastal Plains Junior golf tournament.

Taylor, 17-years-old, clung to a one-shot lead with two holes to play. But he used a conservative approach to hold off Brett McLamb (Coats, N.C.) to finish with a final round of 69, a final score of 139, one shot better than McLamb, who settled for 2nd in the Boys 17-18 division.

Funderburg held off LeAnn Domitrovits (Newport, N.C.) to win by eight strokes and secure back-to-back titles.

The field of nearly 100 players featured golfers from 6 to 17-years old. The champions of each age group automatically qualified for the Tournament of Champions Mebane, N.C. in mid-August. For a full list of results, visit here.
