S.A.C.R.E.D. organization protest in Onslow county

HAMMOCKS BEACH, N.C. (WNCT)- While Governor Pat McCrory made his way to Hammocks Beach state park today to talk about Connect NC, a local organization hoped to make a statement.

Swansboro Area Citizens for Responsible Economic Development or SACRED protested on the side of the road opposing the plans for a new Wal-Mart development in the town.

The group’s leader, Laurent Miellur says their plan is to stay vigilant.

“It’s important for our political leaders, I think to understand what we are doing here in town, what we are trying to stop, and if they can assist us in any way and open up dialogues with Wal-Mart, the developers, maybe even do some mediation. We’re all for that.”

SACRED is holding a community information meeting tomorrow night starting at 5:30 at the Swansboro Recreation Center.
