WAVES, N.C. (WNCT) – A hospital spokeswoman says the 17-year old boy bitten by a shark Saturday near the Rodanthe Pier arrived in critical risk of dying, but his condition has improved.
As of Sunday he is in serious condition. The shark attack was the second in as many days on the Outer Banks and the sixth in the past two weeks along the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina.
Carol Flynn, the hospital spokeswoman, says the man was 18. The National Park Service described him Saturday as 17.
One man is injured after a shark encounter early Saturday. According to reports it happened around 4p.m.
Ocean Rescue Squad paramedics and NPS Rangers responded to the scene. They found a 17-year-old male who was bitten by a shark. He was swimming with several others when the incident happened. No other swimmers were injured. The victim received injuries to his right calf, buttocks, and both hands. He was treated at the scene and then transported to Norfolk, V.A. for futher care.
