WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- Imagine having the opportunity to travel half-way across the world when you’re only in high school.
The theatre students at D.H. Conley have been given that opportunity, after qualifying to attend a prestigious festival in Scotland.
The American High School Theatre Festival takes place every year, inviting 49 schools in the nation. This year, with the help of Drama Director, Gloria Poorman, the local students have the opportunity to attend.
Rising 10th grader, Lydia Daniels, understands that this opportunity was be incredibly beneficial to their education. “There’s going to be a lot of people from theatre departments from all over the world, and we will be able to learn about how they perform. It will be a really interesting experience to be around so many people.”
Although selected for their outstanding performances, the funding is not included. The theatre students know that this once in a lifetime opportunity is one they don’t want to pass on, so they’re doing everything they can to raise the funds.
The students are holding a variety of fundraisers this summer, as they have one year to come up with the funds. On Saturday, they’re hosting a Murder Mystery Dessert Show as a fundraiser. It’s being held at the Coffee Shack in Winterville at 9pm. Tickets are $15, and include a coffee, dessert, and the performance by the students.
