Officials: Daycare must close after child left in hot van

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – State officials have told a Chapel Hill daycare that it must close immediately after a 2-year-old child was left inside a hot van for several hours.

Multiple media outlets reported that the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services notified Operation New Life on Friday that it must cease doing business.

A report from the department said the child was left unsupervised on a van from 9 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The child was found strapped in a restraint device in the bus.

Operation New Life can appeal the decision.

Daycare administrators said earlier this week that they had implemented new policies to make sure nothing similar happened again. They also said they had fired the person responsible.
