Second suspect charged in 2009 shooting, killing of man

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Two days after recharging a man in connection with a 2009 homicide, Raleigh police have arrested another man in the case.

Multiple news sources report 41-year-old Ivan McFarland was arrested Thursday for the death of 32-year-old James Carol Deberry Jr. Authorities say Deberry was found shot in his apartment on Halloween and taken to WakeMed, where he died.

On Tuesday, 49-year-old James Harold Courtney III was arrested. Police say Courtney and another man were originally arrested in 2009 but released after a jury deadlocked in the case. Investigative work continued since the trail, leading to Courtney’s re-arrest.

It is not clear if either man has a lawyer.
