No state license required to fish on July 4

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Independence Day is a free fishing day in North Carolina.

Multiple news sources report anyone is welcome to fish in any public body of water without purchasing a license or additional trout fishing license on July 4. Fishermen will still have to abide by all other fishing regulations, such as size, creel limits and lure restrictions.

The Wildlife Resources Commission requires anyone age 16 and older to have a license to fish throughout the year. Those 15 and under are able to fish without a license. The Commission’s website lists more than 500 fishing and boating areas, most of which are free, open to the public.
