New Bern police implement program to deter crime, traffic violations

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A local police department is hoping a new approach will help cut down on crime and reduce traffic violations.

The New Bern Police Department’s new program uses location based data to strategically target areas where crime and vehicle accidents are high.

The “Data-Driven Approach To Crime and Traffic Safety Program” will use the data to initiate methods for deploying law enforcement.

The data will be used to target “hot spots,” where criminal activity and traffic incidents occur most.

The overall goal is to reduce the incidence of crime, crashes, and traffic violations.

The program is expected to deter criminal activity and reduce traffic violations in New Bern.
