New Bern man arrested for assault on officer with firearm

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT)- 38-year-old Christopher Williams was taken into custody today on a charge of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.

The police were called earlier that day to investigate a report of harassing phone calls and responded at 2:30pm to William’s residence on the 800 block of N. Craven Street.

Williams entered his residence as the police officer was leaving and then came out with a rifle. Williams then retreated inside his residence and refused to come out when officers returned. Members of the Special Response Team responded and hostage negotiators were able to talk Williams out of the residence.
