JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Operation Fan Heat Relief is now in full swing at the Onslow County Senior Services building off Richlands Highway.
For twenty years, the center has been receiving fans to assist elderly adults or adults with disabilities. This year they will be giving away forty fans which will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
In order to receive a fan, applicants must be at least sixty years old with a health situation that is aggravated by the heat.
Director of Onslow County Senior Services, Christine Kinnett said, “We encourage people to spread the word, to check on their neighbors, and check on seniors in the community that they are aware of that might be in danger or might not have what they need.”
The fans and financial support was provided by Dominion Resources, Duke Energy Foundation, Progress Energy and Valassis Giving Communitee.
The program, Operation Fan Heat Relief, is intended to rpovide a more comfortable living environment and reduce heat related illnesses for older adults in the community.
