Durham officer wounds suspect in restaurant robbery

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A Durham police officer has shot and wounded a suspect in a reported robbery at a restaurant.

Police Chief Jose Lopez said officers were called to a McDonald’s restaurant about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Lopez said officers entering the restaurant saw 26-year-old Dennis Palm Jr. holding a female employee. Lopez said the suspect repeatedly threatened to kill her.

Lopez said Police Sgt. Glen Price fired one shot, hitting the suspect in the face. Police say Palm remains in the hospital, but is expected to survive.

Palm faces two counts of second-degree kidnapping and other charges. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.

Price is on leave while the shooting is investigated. He has worked for Durham police for 20 years.
