Support pouring in for Swansboro family that lost 2 children

SWANSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – Support is pouring in for a Swansboro family which lost two of their five children to an ATV accident in Texas.

Earlier this week, an ATV carrying six children between the ages of five and 16 flipped over pinning two underneath.

Five-year-old Sam McCawley died on the scene. His sister, seven-year-old Mercy McCawley, died at an area hospital.

One local restaurant has agreed to help by providing food during the children’s memorial reception.

“It’s just the right thing to do,” said Mike Egan, owner of Saltwater Grill. “Tragedy strikes a small town like this and everybody pulls together. Everybody gets together and you do what you can where you can. This is just a small thing we can do to alleviate as much as we can do. ”

A memorial service will be held June 20th at 10 a.m. at Carteret Baptist Church.

A “You Caring” website has raised over $20,000 for the family.
