AG Cooper issues warning about HVAC scams

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – With temperatures in the triple digits, air conditioners are working overtime.

Some will break down, leaving homeowners in need of quick relief.

The Attorney General’s Office issued a warning Tuesday, urging homeowners to make smart decisions when looking for repairs.

Officials say dozens of people contact the Attorney General’s Office, complaining about AC scams and service.

To avoid any problems:

Get recommendations for reliable service.

Check credentials before you employ someone.

Get a written contract.

And never pay up front.

Contact the Attorney General’s Office if you feel you’ve been a victim of a scam.
